By virtue of the authority vested in me by section 179 of the Revised Statutes (5 U.S.C. 6) and section 301 of title 3 of the United States Code, and as President of the United States, it is ordered as follows: SECTION 1. In case of the death, resignation, absence, or sickness of the Secretary of the Treasury and the Under Secretary of the Treasury, the following officers of the Treasury Department shall, in the order of succession indicated, act as Secretary of the Treasury until a successor is appointed or until the absence or sickness of the incumbent shall cease: (1) Under Secretary for Monetary Affairs. (2) The Assistant Secretaries of the Treasury and the General Counsel for the Department of the Treasury (a) in such order of succession as the Secretary of the Treasury may by order fix from time to time, or (b) if no order of succession is so flxed at the time, then in the order in which they have taken office as Assistant Secretary or General Counsel, as the case may be.
