Mrs. Gertrude L. George may be appointed to a classified position in the Customs Service of the Treasury Department without regard to the requirements of the civil service law and rules. Mrs. George is the widow of Samuel W. George, employed in the Customs Service at Boston for approximately fourteen years and who at the time of his death was appraiser of merchandise. This order is recommended by the Secretary of the Treasury. The Civil Service Commission cannot concur as it can recommend waivers only when the needs of the service cannot be met under the usual procedure under the rules. For charity.
