By virtue of the authority vested in me by the act of March 26, 1934, ch. 87, 48 Stat. 466, the basic exchange rates established by section 4 of Executive Order No. 7972 of September 15, 1938, prescribing regulations for payment of losses sustained by officers, enlisted men, and employees of the United States in foreign countries on account of appreciation of foreign currencies in their relation to the American dollar, are hereby amended to read as follows: This order shall become effective on December 1, 1939: Provided , that for the period from October 1, 1939, to November 30, 1939, the monetary unit for Danzig shall be the reichsmark and the basic rate of exchange shall be 23.77.
