WHEREAS Dr. Alan T. Waterman, Director of the National Science Foundation, will, during the month of June 1962, become subject to compulsory retirement for age under the provisions of the Civil Service Retirement. Act, unless exempted therefrom by Executive order; and WHEREAS, in my judgment, the public interest requires that Dr. Waterman be exempted from such compulsory retirement:

NOW, THEREFORE, #now-therefore

by virtue of and pursuant to the authority vested in me by section 5 of the Civil Service Retirement Act, 70 Stat. 748 (5 U.S.C. 2255), I hereby exempt Alan T. Waterman from compulsory retirement for age for an indefinite period of time. JOHN F. KENNEDY
